Add subtitles to a video automatically, for free

Most people watch social videos with the sound off, so captions keep them watching. Vidonut listens to your video and writes the subtitles for you. It runs on your own device, so there is no cost and no upload.

Open Vidonut, it's free

How to do it, step by step

  1. Add your video

Open Vidonut and click + Add video / photo.

  2. Open Captions

Click the Captions tab. Leave Spoken language on "Detect automatically" or pick it yourself. More than 20 languages work, including English and Spanish.

  3. Choose accuracy

Fast is quick, Good is the default, Better and Max are more accurate on accents and noisy audio. The speech model downloads once the first time, then it is cached.

  4. Generate captions

Click Generate captions. The subtitles appear on their own track in the timeline.

  5. Fix and style

Edit any line by hand, pick a style (Box, Outline or Shadow) and set the size, color and position.

  6. Export

Render the video with the captions burned in, or click Download .srt to get a subtitle file for YouTube.

Captions in another language

Set Subtitles in to "English (translate)" to turn foreign speech into English captions. The Translate tab can also translate into other languages.
